The Curate Marketplace Presents: Carmel Donohue, Poppybelle Florals

By Ryan O'Neil

"I’ve only been in the industry for three years and have thrown myself in right at the deep end! My company is named after my two babies Poppy & Isabelle who are the driving force behind everything I’ve achieved so far. It’s by no means an easy job, but I love the dynamic, innovative nature of the work I do, whilst forever striving for creative excellence and being able to really use my imagination.

What I love most about the industry (aside from the beautiful flowers) is that it has enabled me to work around my family, given me an outlet for my creativity, and still enabled me to be a full time Mum. During busy peaks my Mum and sisters help, their partners help me with installations and even my little Dad has been out on deliveries. It’s a family affair!

The biggest shift I’ve noticed in the industry has been over the past 6 months - the demand for commercial installations in the UK is growing increasingly popular and it's how I spend the majority of my time. Everybody wants an Instagram worthy spot and flowers provide exactly that!"

On The Curate Marketplace, Carmel has a recipe for this tall arrangement, which was one of six designed and created for a recent wedding. She used a mixture of hydrangeas, roses, peonies and foliage in ivory and pink hues to create a soft, romantic look that is both on trend and timeless. The arrangement stood tall on 60cm conical vases with hanging candlelight and the alternate tables had and abundance of floating candles, rose petals and a few single stems. Dreamy!
